“Do It Yourself” Gifts Just In Time For The Holidays

As college students, not only are our energy levels running on empty, but so are our bank accounts. With the semester coming to an end and final exams creeping up on us, we are already stressed enough. Next thing you know, December has arrived with the enormous pressure of how to find our significant other that perfect gift. Look no further, here are five ideas displaying simplistic and inexpensive gifts you can give to that special someone in your life.

1. Romance Coupons:

What you need: Construction paper, scissors, and a pen or pencil.

These are always a big hit and can be as much fun for you to make as they are for your significant other to receive. The best part is, they can be used and enjoyed on multiple occasions! Add anything you’d like that gives the gift a personal touch (Free back rub, breakfast in bed, etc.) There are various ways to go about this activity. You could even type the coupons up yourself and print them, or find a template online. Regardless, it is the perfect addition for a stocking stuffer, or just a little extra something to brighten your partner’s day.

2. Monthly Pre-Planned Date Night Flip Book:

What you need: Construction paper, scissors, pen or pencil, hole puncher, and rings.

You can have a full year of dates already planned with your significant other rather than going through the hassle of this back and forth, painful discussion that will lead you no where:

Partner: “What do you want to do?”

You: “I don’t know, what do you want to do?”

Having fun activities planned in advance saves you a lot of time and effort. Also, you can schedule these dates accordingly depending upon the month and season. Personally, I am a huge fan of this cold weather attraction in Philadelphia and would absolutely make sure that I took my lover here for a night on the town.

3. Reasons Why Jar:

What you need: Mason jar, colored Sharpies, and popsicle sticks.

Again, this is another gift that certainly has that personal touch to it. On the popsicle sticks, write out different reasons why you love your boyfriend or girlfriend. It could be anything from their loyalty towards you to their beautiful blue eyes. There are hundreds of examples out there. Any time they are having a bad day or just need something to smile about, they can simply pull one of the sticks out of the jar and turn to your meaningful words for support and comfort.

4. Candy Bar Card:

What you need: Poster board, a Sharpie, and full size candy bars. (What kind you use depends on your story choice)

This is not your traditional, ordinary card and it definitely gives those singing ones you see in stores a run for their money. Write a sweet story to your special someone physically using the names of different candy bars. Your partner will not only enjoy this, but will absolutely adore the creativity behind the idea… not to mention the fact that the card will be EDIBLE. If you need guidance, I even came across a blog post that will help you with the creative process of this DIY.

5. Love:

What you need: A heart.

Haven’t you ever heard that love conquers all? Besides, any time you receive a gift from anyone, it is the thought that counts. If you would like more reassurance on that, read this article about gift-giving and I guarantee that it will quickly change your perspective. Being able to supply someone with something as powerful as love is much more valuable than anything a salesman at Macy’s could have picked out for your partner.
